Activity summary of the Oct-Nov, 96 (This is based on the responses to the convenors request. If your institution is not in, please respond the request in future.) Thermal profile measurement: In progress: MPI double-sided module, UK-forward module Thermo-distortion measurement: Done: KEK end-tap and cenre-tap modules In progress: UK-Barrel end-tap and centre-tap modules UK-Forward module By early next year: MPI double-sided module Electrically working module assembly & measurement: In progress: UCSC/KEK end-tap and centre-tap modules LBNL/UCSC/KEK single-sided centre-tap module UK-Barrel end-tap and centre-tap modules UK-Forward module By early next year: MPI double-sided module Melbourne centre-tap forward module ====================== MPI-Munich: Laci Andricek The current status of the double sided module development is: 1.) The thermal model is assembled and a simple cooling system is set up. The electrical connections to the heating foils and the PT100 are almost ready and we expect to measure the temperature-distribution on the module during the coming days. This distribution will be measured first in a thermally isolating box without convection and second in a climate-box at an ambiente temperature of -5 degC. I'll put a summary of the measurement results on our web-page as soon as possible. 2.) The amount of material is being optimized. Extensive thermal simulations with different width of the CFC-frame were done last week at NIKHEF. I expect to get the results on Monday (November,18.). They will again be put on the web as soon as they are summarized. 3.) An optimized module in terms of mass an stability is in preparation. Measurements of the thermal distortion and the integration of an electrically working module with SCT128 readout will follow early next year. UK-Forward: Neil Jackson Measurements with the thermal module are in progress and we expect to go to Oxford this week for the distortion tests. We hope the electrical module will be assembled around 1/12/96. Japan: Y.Nobu UNNO Measurement of the two (end-tap and centre-tap) thermo-distortion modules were carried out at Oxford. (The modules and the PG-on-Glass support base were shown in the Oct Engineering meeting at CERN.) Preliminary results of distortion patterns and temperature distributions were posted on a web page. Preparation of the electrically working module is proceeding together with UCSC and LBNL: - One (-side) of fully loaded Kapton hybrid was sent from UCSC to KEK. Three more hybrid (partially loaded) from UCSC will be stuffed and wire-bonded in Japan. - BeO hybrid base was sent from RAL to KEK - Glass pitchadaptors were fabricated in Japan. KEK will supply a few to Melbourne in response to its request. - A new batch of nn80AC detectors are about to be delivered (8 detectors for two modules). KEK will supply another 8 detectors to UK-Barrel group in response to its request. - PG core are being machined. We use PG700 because of the availability this time. - Assembling fixtures are being delivered - Wire-bonding will start for the first hybrid - detector in this week. - Two nn75AC detectors were supplied to LBNL for an assembly of single- sided module, centre-tap, with LBNL ceramic hybrid (AlN), to test the wire-bonding of the bridged hybrid and the electrical noises. Detector irradiation: 2 newly designed 75 micron pitch double-sided detectors, and 3 new nn80AC detectors were sent for the CERN PS November irradiation. In addition these, remaining 3 nn75AC detectors are being irradiated (in cooperation with Cambridge group, especially, Dave Robinson.) UK-Barrel: Distortion measurement are being carried on for an end-tap and a centre-tap module at Oxford. Trying to use both a UK-built support base and the KEK-build PG-on-Glass base. Electrically working modules: - Pedja is at UCSC and assembling one double-sided Au-3micron/BeO hybrid for the end-tap, and two single-side loaded BeO hybrids for centre-tap modules. - Delivery of MICRON nn80AC detectors are delayed; requested KEK to provide Hamamatsu nn80AC detectors for module assembling.
