ATLAS SCT Beamtest DAQ (KEK Feb96)

General

How to start the DAQ

Two computers are associated with the DAQ: the VME processor performing data readout and event building (the RAID), and a workstation performing control, monitoring and data handling (at KEK, a DECstation known as jsdux3).

Both machines must be powered and correctly connected to the network. Should it be necessary to boot or reboot the RAID, consult the H8 DAQ notes.

To commence a DAQ session, login to the DECstation under account "sdc_si", and execute the command "tb_setup". A number of windows will open on the DECstation console. Arrange these windows on one side of the screen in a vertical array so that each may be seen. Several of the windows, coloured blue, are telnet sessions to the RAID. Click the cursor on each blue window, and login to the RAID under account "sctdaq".

Now that all control windows are available, the appropriate DAQ processes must be started in each.

In "RAID_EMU_DISPLAY", execute "emudisp &".

In "RAID_DAQ_CONTROL", execute "tbmenu".

In "RAID_MONITOR_CONTROL", execute "tb_mon1 &".

In "DEC_MONITOR_CONTROL", execute "tb_rmon &".

In "DEC_PAW_CONTROL", execute "tbpaw".

Note that the two monitoring tasks tb_mon1 and tb_rmon should only be executed together. To clear histograms at any time, kill both processes with Control-C and restart. [this will be improved]
