Outline of our irradiation plan is described in the following. We believe the materials intercepting the beam is very small and the exposure time is short, so they don't cause any effect on the other experiments. With best regards, Susumu Terada ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1996-9-27 , S. Terada;KEK Proton Irradiation Plan (T363) Purpose: To study characteristics of a leakage current induced by a heavy radiation with high energy protons and also to verify radiation hardness of the most updated design of ATLAS and CDF SVX-II silicon strip detectors. To study radiation effects on a low mass Kapton flexible printed circuit to be used for the ATLAS and CDF silicon detector read out electronics. Target fluences: i) Low fluence run: 0.5 x 10e14/cm2 over 6 x 6 cm2 ii) High fluence run: 3.0 x 10e14/cm2 over 6 x 6cm2 Expected exposure time: i) Low fluence run: 2.5 hour. ii) High fluence run : 15 hours ------------------ Total : 17.5 hours We assumed an extracted beam intensity would be about 1.5 x 10e12 ppp in every 4 seconds. Materials and their thickness intercepting the beam at upstream of EP1-A: 1. For low fluence exposure; Silicon detector (6cm x 6cm x 0.3mmt) ------------- 1 0.003 X0 Al foil (0.1mmt) + Mylar (0.1 mmt) -------------- 1 0.001 X0 Total: 0.004 X0 2. For high fluence exposure; Silicon detector (6cm x 6cm x 0.3mmt) ------------- 3 0.009 X0 Kapton flexible PC (6.0cm x 6cm x 0.05mmt) ------ 6 0.006 X0 Al foil (0.1mmt) + Mylar (0.1mmt) -------------- 1 0.001 X0 Total: 0.016 X0 Schedule: Apr. 8 (Tue.) 14:00 - 16:00; Setup the movable stage and sample materials in the EP1-A beam line Apr. 9 (Wed.) 10:00 - 19:00; beam exposure (move the materials into the beam for the exposure)* Apr. 10 (Thu.) 10:00 - 18:30; beam exposure (move the materials into the beam for the exposure)* Apr. 31 (Mon.) 14:00 - 15:00 ;Take out the cold box from EP1 area and bring it to the radiation safety building. *No access to the beam area is required during the beam cycle since the materials will be brought into the beam line by means of a remote controlled movable table.
