From: KEKVAX::TERADA 6-JUN-1996 11:16:49.66 To: CHIBAJ CC: MINORU,BANPAKU,YAMANOI,KONDO,KOHRIKI,UNNO,IWASAKIH,TERADA Subj: Request for a proton irradiation (T363) at EP1 Dear Chiba-san, We want to carry out a proton irradiation on silicon detectors and related materials (T363) during the beam cycle which will be starting on June 19. Outline of our plan is as follows; Purpose: To verify radiation hardness of the most updated design of a CDF SVX-II silicon strip detector. To study radiation effects on various materials especially resins and adhesives to be used for the construction of CDF and ATLAS silicon detectors. Target fluences: i) Low fluence run: 0.4 x 10e14/cm2 over 1.6 x 7.5 cm2 ii) High fluence run: 2.0 x 10e14/cm2 over 2.5 x 10cm2 Expected exposure time: i) for low fluence run: 1 hour. ii) for high fluence run : 7 hours ------------------ Total : 8 hours We assumed an extracted beam intensity as 2 x 10e12 ppp in every 3 seconds. Materials and their thickness intercepting the beam at upstream of EP1-A 1. For low fluence exposure; Silicon detector (1.6cm x 7.5cm x 0.3mmt) -------- 4 0.013 X0 Al foil (0.1mmt) + Mylar (0.1 mmt) ------------- 1 0.001 X0 Total: 0.014 X0 2. For high fluence exposure; Kapton flexible PC (2.5cm x 10cm x 0.3mmt) ---------- 6 0.021 X0 Silicon + adhesive + Kapton (2.5cm x 10cmx 0.4 mmt) --- 3 0.015 X0 CFRP plate (0.3 mmt) -------------------- 2 0.005 X0 Al foil (0.1mmt) + Mylar (0.1mmt) ------------------ 1 0.001 X0 Total: 0.042 X0 Schedule: June 18 (Tue.) 14:00 - 15:00; Setup the movable stage and sample materials in the EP1-A beam line June 21 (Fri.) 10:00 18:00 beam exposure (move the materials into the beamline)* July 11 (Thu) 14:00 - 15:00 Take out the cold box from EP1 area and bring it to the radiation safety building. *No access to the beam area is required during the beam cycle since the materials will be brought into the beam line just for the 8 hour exposure time by means of a remote controled movable table.
