1996-9-27 , S. Terada;KEK Proton Irradiation Plan (T363) Purpose: In order to study a thermal property of the ATLAS silicon modules of a very large leakage current due to a heavy radiation damage, we would like to irradiate the latest ATLAS silicon detectors with 8 GeV protons extracted in the EP1-A beam line at the N-counter hall. Target fluence: 3.0 x 10e14/cm2 over 6.4 x 6.4 cm2 Expected exposure: 16 hours* *We assumed an extracted beam intensity would be about 1.5 x 10e12 ppp in every 3 seconds. Materials and their thickness intercepting the beam at upstream of EP1-A: Silicon detector (6.4cm x 6.4cm x 0.3mmt) x 8------- 0.024 X0 Al foil (0.1mmt) + Mylar (0.1mmt) --------------- 0.001 X0 Total: 0.025 X0 Schedule: Nov. 18 (Tue.) 16:00 - 18:00; Setup the movable stage and silicon samples in the EP1-A beam line Nov. 19-20 (Wed. - Thu.) 10:00 - 16:00; beam exposure (move the materials into the beam line for the exposure)* Dec. 9 (Tue.) 16:00 - 17:00 ;Take out the silicons from EP1 area and bring them to the radiation safety building. *No access to the beam area is required during the beam cycle since the materials will be brought into the beam line with a remote controlled movable table.
